I would recommend "Back to Black" by Amy Winehouse. Fantastic album. It's been in my car CD player for the last month and I can't bear to take it out!!
Another good CD is the debut by Corrine Bailey Ray.
Finally, Jamie Cullum's 'Catching Tales'.

I just saw a commercial for Amy Winehouse. She's certainly got an unusual voice. I'm gonna have to check that one out. Has anyone heard of The New Pornographers? They're a kind of Canadian 'supergroup', and their last album, Twin Cinema, has been on my ipod for months. Oh, and don't let the name fool ya. They're not as indie as the name might imply.

It's Ella for me every time. Though I do have quite an eclectic taste in music and a lot depends on my mood. So I can range from Abba to Verdi, with a bit of ELO and a lot of Madeleine Peyroux thrown in.

I also have eclectic musical tastes. For awhile I was into opera in a major way. My favorite singer was the late, great Greek American mezzo soprano Tatiana Troyanos. Her voice was mesmerizing like smooth dark chocolate. I just created a playlist on my iPod titled "Jazzy Best...Patti Austin, Anita Baker and George Benson".

This could shape up to be my favourite year for music ever. Scheduled sometime this year (though they've been saying that for TEN YEARS) is the new PORTISHEAD album. Scheduled later this year is the new RADIOHEAD album. (Oddly enough, I don't like Motorhead. ) If you go to this YouTube link, you'll see a video with two of their new songs they play tested during their tour last year. It's only a montage of photographs put to music, so you can minimize the page and just listen. The two songs are "15 Step" and "House of Cards", the latter which is destined to be replayed by me over and over and over. (It's at the 4:30 mark of the video if you want to jump ahead to it.)

A link to Jamie Cullum singing one of his most beautiful songs: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmyrvZ-Qt3sI'm not a religious person but I think the words of this song are brilliant and it's definately one of my favourites. He's a wonderful performer. Saw him live around the same time this footage was done. Another favourite is a fellow countryman of CB's. The brilliant Diana Krall www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wbGYHwIt0A

I'm not familiar with Jamie Cullum but when I watched the clip his voice and singing style reminded me of one of my all time favorites: Michael Franks. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=cPWA9N10tRQ I like Diana Krall (with whom Michael Franks has performed) also.

I'm not familiar with Jamie Cullum but when I watched the clip his voice and singing style reminded me of one of my all time favorites: Michael Franks. Not familiar with Michael but I've just had a listen and.....he's exellent! In turn he reminded me of Donald Fagen and The Nightfly album. Found a couple of clips of the unique Amy Winehouse. I think she's a tortured soul and needs some help but there is no denying the talent. First clip is from before she tattoed herself to death and descended into drugs and drink binges. www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-Ri1SYUjPA&mode=related&search=Second is from the very recent Mercury Awards and the difference in her appearance is shocking but she can still perform and have you hanging on her every word. www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5LsdEqSQO4

"Not familiar with Michael but I've just had a listen and.....he's exellent! In turn he reminded me of Donald Fagen and The Nightfly album." Oh, yes! I'm a fan of Donald Fagen and have the whole 'Nightfly' album on my iPod. Love him!
I can see that Amy Winehouse has talent, a very unique voice, but she isn't quite my cup of tea musically. It's very sad to see a person self destruct in the way she seems set on doing. I read an article about her when she married her boyfriend in Miami. Extremely bizarre behavior. Two sad souls on the edge.

Oh, yes! I'm a fan of Donald Fagen and have the whole 'Nightfly' album on my iPod. Love him! I was introduced to his music as a teenager in the early eighties by my boyfriend at the time (who looked like Christopher Reeve, incidently!). From there, I discovered Steely Dan. Donald bought out another solo album last year called 'Morph the Cat' which I currently have in my car. Spookily, I used to have a cat called Morph (named after a children's TV character made of plastercine). A guy at work has recently introduced us all to Manu Chao. Something very different but immediately creates a good atmosphere. I find that the music is good to iron to....

Annie Lennox's new album, "Songs of Mass Destruction" came out on Tuesday! I haven't been able to pick it up yet, but I heard all the songs when they were previewed on MSN and I think I'm really going to love this album. (With the exception of "Diva", her albums always have a bit of a slow burn with me, where I'll listen to them a couple of times and not think much of them, then BAM! I realize how awesome they are. ) Here's the video for the first single, Dark Road. And here's a refresher of some of her best stuff. (Okay, it's all from "Diva", what can I say? It's one of my favourite albums of all time!) Little Bird. Awesome video where we get to see all the incarnations of her video personas over the years! Precious. My favourite video. Money Can't Buy It. (The towel? What's up with the towel? ) Why. Gorgeous and brilliant. I could go on and on about Ms. Lennox, but I think her music speaks for itself.

Only two weeks late with my recommendation, but I highly recommend Radiohead's new album, In Rainbows. The thing is, you can't buy it in stores. The band has decided to try something quite unprecedented, and are offering it on their website. The interesting part? You are given the choice to pay what you want, whether it be £100 or nothing at all. That's correct- you don't actually have to pay for it if you don't want. (It is estimated that the band made $10 million in the first day of release, which isn't too bad for something offered for free!) There is a 45p charge on your credit card even if you decide to pay nothing, but for $1, I think that's still a fair cop! They then send you the files in an email; you unzip them, and away you go. I'll give you one for free. Jigsaw Falling into Place. (It is a sendspace link, so it will only be available for a week from the date of this posting.)

Picked up a couple of CD's last week. Decided it was time to regress to my teenage years! I purchased Best of ELO. Brilliant. New World Record was probably my first serious album purchase. I was around 13 at the time. I just loved their mix of rock with classical instruments like the cello and violin. I discovered the original promo for Mr Blue Sky www.youtube.com/watch?v=98P-gu_vMRcIt's a fab track to play with the car roof down (I have an MGF) Also, my second purchase was Japan's Tin Drum. My favourite track has always been Ghosts I notice that the BBC currently use this for the Waking the Dead promos each week. www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_e3RbwzzdAI discovered David Sylvian from his theme tune for Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence - David Bowie's finest acting hour www.youtube.com/watch?v=8h-OgYyE0AA
