Must say, I am quite looking forward to the new ITV drama Scott & Bailey that starts this Sunday. Looking at the cast and synopsis, it does rather sound like Cagney & Lacey in Manchester!!! One blonde and one dark. One with a husband and kids, the other a feisty singleton with a drink problem... digiguide.tv/pick-of-the-day/29+May+2011/drama-scott-and-bailey/Anything starring Lesley Sharpe is worth a look. Suranne Jones proved in "Unforgiven" that she is more than a soap actress. Looks like the main roles are all women and it is written by Sally Wainwright who wrote an early episode of BG and went on to write "At home with the Braithwaites". I will watch with interest.

Me too TC....agreed about Lesley Sharpe Thought of you gingercat as I know you share my soft spot for Cagney & Lacey ;D I enjoyed the first episode although I thought Lesley Sharpe was a bit underused. I read somewhere that her story arc will be a series long slow burner so, fingers crossed, that she gets more air time in future episodes. It might suffer from too many C & L comparisons. I think I even spotted them having a debate in the ladies loo at one point!!! Not sure whether I like the Jones character. Bit Bunny Boiler but it was a nice parallel with the actual crime she was investigating. Apparently, this is going to be the nearest to reality as far as procedure is concerned. e.g. DC's not DCI's do interviews and attend crime scenes. The interviews are not shouting matches as per every other crime drama. On Digital Spy there are a few folk criticising the fact that it focuses more on their private lives that the crimes but that was exactly what I loved about C & L - who can forget dear old Harv and his spaghetti Bolognese or Christine and her Dad putting the world to rights over a Scotch??

Watched the second episode & really enjoyed it ;D Yep, it is definately a 'must see' at our house each week ;D Lesley Sharpe is especially good. She's a very subtle actress - gets over a lot of emotion without the need for histrionics. My only criticism is that all the male characters are a little unsympathetic. All their male colleagues and both partners are portrayed as tools. The strength of Cagney & Lacey was that the males were all pretty likeable - Harv was a hugely supportive husband, David the Lawyer was a good egg. Isbecki, Petrie and Samuels were all decent guys. Maybe my problem is I WANT it to be Cagney & Lacey a little too much...
