There's always Phillips Idowa in the triple jump. Mind you it depends which Phillips turns up! No doubt he'll have his hair coloured in some outlandish way but if he comes good, who cares. Yes, he looked very impressive in the qualifying round but I gathered from comments made by Jonathon Edwards that he can go awol when it matters. Fingers crossed. Ah ok. I thought I had seen bowles at some competition. That explains it. I agree that some sports seem odd inclusions. Synchronised swimming is the one that makes me roll my eyes the most. Yuk. Beach volleyball isn't much better. Wonder when frisby throwing and kite flying will be included??

I think they need to slim the whole Games down. What the hell has beach volleyball, softball, baseball, synchronised swimming/diving... I could go on got to do with OG?....... I await my hands being slapped for daring to suggest the above. ;D I agree that some sports seem odd inclusions. Synchronised swimming is the one that makes me roll my eyes the most. Yuk. Beach volleyball isn't much better. Wonder when frisby throwing and kite flying will be included?? What's wrong with kite flying? It goes very well with the Olympics motto: 'Higher-Faster-Stronger'. I can think of another sport to match the motto. Just being playful. ;D

Yesterday at the Bird's Nest stadium the most exciting thing to watch was the Russian athlete Elena Isinbaeva pole vault to an impressive 5.05m to win the gold--a world record. She's certainly going to come out of the Beijing Olympics as a super star in the making.

Dear God, how awful was the London segment of the closing ceremony?? Bus queues, graffiti, umbrellas and David Beckham. Not to mention the waaaay OTT political correctness of it - all rather pointless when the guy in the wheelchair jumped out of it about half way through and started dancing on the bus At least Jimmy Page was worth listening to. Did the only singer we could find to represent us really have to be a product of X Factor? Sue Barker claimed that it was so very British "loud and proud".

Didn't watch it all tc but I, too, thought the Brit contribution a tad disturbing. Having said that, I didn't find myself engaged by the Chinese production. Yes, it was slick and well orchestrated, but I found it strangely unmoving. Far too clinical for me. As to DB, they love him in the Far East and strangely I quite like him, he's past his best but...

Why were the two singers one British and Chinese paired with the granddaddies. How cringe-y.

I thought the closing ceremonies were well done but very weird and the British part.....hmmm.....I'm trying to think of something nice and uplifting to say....I know! It was unique! I'm really looking forward to London 2012 despite the bizarre hand off. BTW, that guy with the open jacket is really the mayor of London? How did that HAPPEN?
