We saw it last week. Best Bond film since Live and Let Die as far as I am concerned. Not been overly fussed with Bond for a very long time - The Roger Moore years got sillier and sillier. I liked Pierce but thought the stories were overblown and fell asleep during one or two. I didn't really like the first two Daniel Craig outings. However, Skyfall was excellent. Gripped from start to finish. Good story. Brilliant villain. Proper theme tune by Adele. London looked fab. Big thumbs up from me ;D

I'm the last person to make an informed judgement on James Bond, because I've been a huge fan since I was a kid and have been a massive Daniel Craig supporter since the beginning. But with my bias in mind, this movie was absolutely brilliant, and at risk of causing my father to roll over in his grave, Daniel Craig is undoubtedly the best James Bond ever. Believe me, this is coming from a girl born in the era of Roger Moore, but was taught that there was no one better than Sean Connery! A lot has to do with the time period, of course. While the Connery flicks are still great to watch (still love the fight scene on the train with the great Robert Shaw in "From Russia with Love"), they do look a bit dated, as I'm sure 50 years from now, the Craig ones will. So that's out of Connery's hands. But there's something more. Despite not fitting the description physically (there's no way I'd say Daniel Craig resembles Hoagy Carmichael), he fits it in every other way: cold, ruthless killer who will use his brain whenever possible, but when push comes to shove, he DOES have a licence to kill, after all. He just fits somehow. As for Skyfall, it's the most complete Bond movie in the series. Just enough action and just enough heart. Daniel Craig said when you surround yourself with talent, you can't help but try to raise your game and you can see in this movie how right he is. Javier Bardem knows exactly where the line is between camp and sinister, and both Judi Dench and Ralph Fiennes bring a real gravity to what can easily stray into parody. Sam Mendes needs to be locked down for the next two Bond films, because he's a wonderful director (first Oscar-winning director to take the helm of a Bond film in 50 years). And if cinematographer Roger Deakins doesn't win something for this, it will be criminal. I've never seen a Bond movie look so gorgeous. The fight scene in the Shanghai building, done entirely in silhouette, is worth the price of admission all on its own. But the real winner for me is Daniel Craig, who has finally found the right combination of "blunt instrument" as M would call him and a man who has to find a way to live with the choices he makes; a balance between the past and the now; and a concession between what the fans (think they) want (guns! girls! gadgets!) and what he wants to give. I only have two problems with Skyfall: it's going to be 2 years until the next Bond and how do they top this one?? (Oh, and Adele was a brilliant choice. I told RomanMachine that if they couldn't get Shirley Bassey, there was no other choice but Adele. It's a proper Bond song and should win loads of things.)
