My guess is that the BG set plays some part in the connection. I very, very much doubt that Ms Jones will appear nor her character be referred to. It will all be about the media perception of the stars of BG - Debra and Claire - not the fan perception So Debra and Claire are considered "stars" in the UK TV world? Why? I mean after BG Claire did some dancing show, right? Debra did Corrie and she's famous for some vaudeville like shows. But their star currency is bigger than MJ and SL? If you look at the tons of BG websites the only two stars there are Mandana and Simone with a big fan following. It would be nice to see Mandana be interviewed even for a few minutes. Just to get an idea how she speaks and sounds today. Because being interviewed for a magazine is not the same as actually seeing and hearing her. You can take a lot from that. ETA: It just stuck me that when ITV decided to do Drama Trails they must've asked Shed who they wanted to front their show. And they suggested Debra. They could've easily recommended MJ if they really wanted to. They are always saying how proud they are of the ground breaking the lesbian character Nikki Wade they created was etc. And since Drama Trail is looking back at TV history or something like that it would've made perfect sense. Anyway we'll find out from you all if she makes an appearance or not.

So Debra and Claire are considered "stars" in the UK TV world? Debra had been in a BBC drama by Kay Mellor called 'Playing the Field' prior to BG but I don't think she was one of the main leads . She had also done voice work for Spitting Image. She certainly was not a well known performer. Claire King was a soap villain in Emmerdale and so did generate newspaper inches as a result. For some reason, TV and newspapers here in Britain seem obsessed with soap performers, usually out of all proportion to their actual talent. Oh God yes. The perception of who the stars of BG were as far as the fans are concerned and the media are vastly different. Mandana got barely any coverage during her stint in BG. Simone faired a little better but that was mainly in the Scottish press. It was all about Debra. She was always the one being interviewed on TV chat shows and in magazines. I think this was mainly because they discovered she was an impersonator and played heavily on that. Then, Claire joined and it was all about her as well. It must have been very galling for the original cast to see her getting all the attention, especially as she had effectively taken Simone's job as well. As the drama progressed into later series, Bodybag got a lot of coverage. That is why I will not be suprised if Debra and Claire are the only performers to represent BG. The interesting thing is that, during their time with BG, there were very many fan events and most of the cast attended most of the events - with the glaring exception of Debra and Claire! The only events they turned up to were the award ceremonies where both got nominated ahead of Mandana, Simone and Linda Henry.

Or do they have smart agents?

I remember seeing a few eps of 'Playing the Field' some years back but can't place Debra. She must be one of the girls in the soccer team. The mother from one of the family also played Swiss Tony's mother. Very funny show. I liked the way he tells his customers,"Buying a new car is like making love to a beautiful woman". lol I don't know how the analogy worked but it was hilarious. Oh yeah Claire was in 'Emmerdale'. It must've been weird to play step- mother to her then real life hubby. She's probably fronting 'Emmerdale' Wonder if she'll have a few choice words for the woman who played the barmaid or maybe even thank her.

At the BG book signing both Debra and Claire didn't turn up. Even Jack Ellis was not there. Why was that? Were they not invited? I'm sure the fans would've loved to meet them and get their book signed. MJ, SL and HF signed a lot of books bought by the fans. So was this a freebie by MJ and SL?

The perception of who the stars of BG were as far as the fans are concerned and the media are vastly different. On reflection: Media, PR and Marketing=important. If are able to get it. Fans=secondary/not so important because fans are fickle and do nothing to promote your career atleast financially. A dictum to remember by any professional artist.IMO.

This tells me that they are both very PR savvy! Or do they have smart agents? I think there is an element of being PR savvy but it was more than that. It appeared that the press just weren't interested in the other performers. The way I understand it, the press are invited on certain days onto whatever set and given free reign as to who they interview. With BG, they all wanted Debra and Claire. No. That particular event was advertised by Shed in advance as only being attended by Mandana, Simone and Helen Fraser. I was referring to specific events whereby fans paid to attend. There was one charity event (Nags Head) where fans paid something like £100 per ticket and were told that all the cast would attend. Only Debra, Claire and Bodybag were not there. Every single other cast member was. Similarly, the TV Quick Awards after the 2nd series, hundreds of fans attended to meet the cast. Again, Claire and Debra were absent. The only occasions when they turned up were when they were personally nominated for best actress awards. Mandana and Simone attended every BG fan related event and award ceremony with the exception of Mandana missing one because she was abroad. It just appeared that Debra and Claire were happy to take all the plaudits and press attention but gave nothing back to the fans that were watching it, voting for the awards and paying a lot of money for merchandise etc

After reading the above both Debra and Claire come off very opportunistic.yikes

If Debra and Claire and Bodybag were not there. It does not look good on them, I agree with you.

It will all be about the media perception of the stars of BG - Debra and Claire - not the fan perception I know it is really, really bad form to quote myself but I just want to stress that I did not see a preview tape. Honest. But my prediction was spookily entirely accurate! I admit to only watching the first 10 minutes of Drama Trails but it was just Debra going back to Oxford Prison where they used to film external scenes and on which the set was based. It's now a luxury hotel. At least 5 minutes were taken up with Debra walking around the hotel saying how weird it all was. Two of the Shed bods were also interviewed saying how Debra was the best example of an actor exceeding their writing expectations . Scenes shown only included Shell (with Rachael Hicks, Denny and Fenner). The programme then moved on to Claire King in Emmerdale and that was the link! If anyone else comes on and says that, after Emmerdale, they returned and Ms Jones was interviewed for 50 minutes about her experiences, you will be pleased to know I haven't yet deleted the programme from my digibox......

Its ok TC..you can now delete as I have.... I ended up skimming through. To be honest, it was more for the reason that I wondered whether they made the link back from Cold Blood to BG with the Matthew Kelly/Debra Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes than any hope of a more indepth look at BG ;D To add a little insult, on the 'map' they used to punctuate each link (some were soooooo tenuous - like someone in Emmerdale once won 'rear of the year' and so did Felicity Kendal star of Rosemary and Thyme...... : they actually used a photo of 'Helen and Nikki' but it was the actresses from the Musical
