I haven't yet seen the 'supersizers go...series'. Will look out for them. Oh they are brilliant fun, jilly. Giles and the comedian Sue Perkins have a fabulous rapport. Actually, I see that she is one of the celebrities doing 'Maestro' where well known people are being trained to conduct the BBC philharmonic orchestra at The Proms later in the year. David (Hutch) Soul is also doing it! Should be entertaining. I suspect that Sue might win it because she seems quite competitive (but in an amusing way) and she is a pianist I believe.

She really does look fantastic, doesn't she? Not to take anything away from her figure, that bikini is brilliantly designed. Looks like a typical Bravissimo creation - constructed to flatter and enhance. Here's how you can get one for free! I'm not sure it'll have the same effect, however. Not a Bravissimo creation TC. Bikini shmikini. Anybody skinny dipped? ;D

I wish Mandana was one of the celebrities. David Soul lives in London now?

Last night I happened on an old review/critique of Zadie Smith's 'On Beauty'. Anyway to cut the story short she(a well known books blogger) was not very complimentary. Infact she called it,"Drab and drear, utterly unmemorable, unfulfilled and unfulfilling: it’s just poor on all counts. If I hadn’t been honour bound to finish it for my Orange Short List challenge I’d have lain it aside...." At the bottom of the blog one commenter wrote: "I tend to agree with your assessment of 'On Beauty'. It's almost as if the Arabesques that energised 'White Teeth' have been tamed and discarded in an attempt to become a more 'mature' writer, as if through fear that those tendencies of hers were too showy, rather than in some way to develop or play with those bursts and inquisitiveness. Instead you get a rather feeble 'homage' that plays with ideas but doesnt seem to have many ideas itself. Pleasent enough reading, good for the Tube and the half hour in bed before sleep comes, but I fear that Smith has settled like silt into the river bed of mediocrity. I can't help feeling people are dazzled by expectation and hype, hence the breathless reviews - the great young genius of the contemporary English novel is not so great after all. Her fawning over her inspirations (dripping thanks and praise to Forster, Elaine Scarry, Simon Schama) suggest a writer in a state of nervousness. Zadie, next time, please gut and quarter your influences, disrespect them, turn on them like a rebel, spit at them like a punk, fight and stab and rage at them. Just don't write a respectful, 'aww shucks' apologetic work of homage." Now comes the fun part. ;D Who'd've thought ZS googles herself. Check her response. Hi, it's me - in my riverbed of mediocrity. Just to say, I never considered myself to be 'the young genius of the contemporary english novel' or any kind of genius. I'm just a writer, starting out. Maybe one day I'll write a novel you like - probably not. What I definitely need to do is stop reading blogs like this if I want to continue getting out of bed in the morning. Mea culpa, zx

I wish Mandana was one of the celebrities. David Soul lives in London now? I really enjoyed the first episode of this last night. I have always had a sneaking desire to conduct an orchestra and so was fascinated to watch them learning the techniques. You can watch their efforts on the BBC website. It has it's own section. Poor Peter Snow. He was hilarious. The orchestra got slower and slower. You'll never hear Prokofiev sound quite like it again ;D The three ladies were all very good - all have the advantage of being musicians though. The biggest suprise was drum and bass DJ Goldie. He can't read a note of music but really excelled with his command of the tempo. David Soul might very well conk out with the sheer exhaustion of it all. Bless. BTW I was mistaken. It's the BBC concert orchestra.

Well I checked the BBC site but when I clicked on the the video--- it said it's contents are not available to users outside the UK! But Utube had a clip of Sue Perkins performing minus the baton. ;D The 1st half looked fine but she seems to bungle thru in the 2nd half. Anybody interested can click here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4suQIpihDY

I just love this Maestro programme. The conducting bit is really interesting but it is also nice to hear the music too. This week was well known film or TV themes. Poor old David Soul. Was shocked at his exit so soon. He definately had the most difficult piece this week. I hope Bradley Walsh isn't just going to keep being voted in because he is amusing. Jane Asher was a disaster this week and the judges accused her of 'acting' the part of a conductor rather than actually doing any real conducting!! Goldie - very good but oooh he has an issue with criticism. The newsreader has a freaky smile. It's almost demonic. She seems like one of those people that is too nice to be genuine. Sue Perkins - my God. That standard after just 2 weeks? One judge said she had played under many professional conductors who were of a lower standard. She will be hard to beat (pun intended :

Wow....McCain has picked Sarah Palin as his Veep. She's a 44yr old Governor of Alaska, a former basketball player(a point guard) and a former beauty queen(runner up). And she's not beholden to the oil industry. ;D What a contrast to Senator Biden...the oldish white guy who spend half his life in the Senate. This is certainly going to make the race very interesting.

And she looks like Simone Lahbib! I can't see myself EVER voting for John McCain but it will be interesting to watch Sarah Palin in a debate with Joe Biden. I was/am a supporter of Hillary Clinton...one of those disgruntled Hillary voters they are trying so hard to win over. I'm a liberal pro-choice voter who could never vote for a conservative pro-life, life long NRA member. I do applaud the choice she made to continue her pregnancy knowing she was having a Down Syndrome baby. I have a Down Syndrome brother. She certainly has an interesting resume...from the fishing industry to small town mayor to Governor of Alaska and her husband is 1/8 Yup'ik Eskimo. Just wish she wasn't a social conservative!

I was sympathetic to Hillary. But the Democratic Party threw her under Obama's bus. WRT Sarah Palin someone suggested she reminds them of Tony Soprano's shrink. ;D So who's gonna win? Obama or McCain?

No, no, no. Sarah Palin looks nothing like Lorraine Bracco. When I turned the tv on last Friday and saw her being introduced I was in shock...for a second I thought John McCain had chosen Simone Lahbib as his running mate the resemblance was that strong...at first glance. Reason returned a second later because I know SL is not an American citizen. The Democratic Party AND the press corps threw Hillary under the bus. As a commentator said this evening the press are in the tank for Obama. It was and is so blatant. I have never seen such hatred for a candidate...the press was determined she would lose...there was no impartiality of the press. I think they basically hate Bill Clinton who IMO was the best president of the latter part of the 20th century. I could go on and on. I also think misogyny played a huge role. It's a tragedy...she was so obviously the best candidate. When I voted in the primary there were all these older women in line who were so excited about FINALLY being able to vote for a woman for President. I was for the first time in my adult life going to sit out the election but I know I'll have to hold my nose and vote for Obama. BTW, Joe Biden is a class act and is the saving grace of the ticket. I actually like John McCain as a person and a star was born when Sarah Palin delivered her acceptance speech but you won't find me voting for someone who thinks creationism should be taught along with other 'theories' of evolution. That's scary. I don't know who is going to win at this point. "Culture wars" are dividing America once again...half the country is moderate to liberal and half conservative to right wing crazy.

They just carry on repeating things which were reported as falsehoods by the press. It's an interesting turn of events. Now the press is being thrown under the bus. The polls are dead even at the moment. After the the debates things will be more clear I should think. ;D

Best quote of the week comes from Clive Crook of FT.com: 'I am a huge admirer of Damien Hirst. Not of the art, which is rubbish, but of the sheer productivity and exuberance he brings to his life’s work of fleecing rich idiots. “Oh Damien, you’re a genius. Screw me over again.” “Why not,” he says, munching a bacon butty.'
