This comment on a blog made me laugh. I thought I'd share it with you. ;D
'Republicans are refusing to take responsibility for the Wall Street crisis, even though John McCain's policies mirror George Bush's.'
This lack of logic is astounding. Anyone who thinks this is good writing or logic should not be involved in professional journalism.
Look at it with the words rearranged. What you're suggesting is:
Even though John McCain's policies mirror George Bush's, the Republicans are refusing to take responsibility for the Wall Street crisis.
Since John McCain's policies mirror George Bush's, the Republicans should take responsibility for the Wall Street crisis.
Is this logic? Is this good writing? Get another job.

I can't see myself EVER voting for John McCain but it will be interesting to watch Sarah Palin in a debate with Joe Biden. Last night Sarah Palin was incredible. After all the gratuitous bashing she endured last couple of weeks I was a bit apprehensive for her. But her performance at the debates was extraordinary. I thought she held her own quite well against a seasoned debater like the Senator Biden. She was obviously not so knowledgeable or policy oriented as Senator Biden. But she revealed she had enough understanding and good old common sense to make the right decisions/judgments I thought. She came off as sincere and down to earth. With her pleasing demeanor and smiling face she looked straight at the camera and spoke directly to the American people. She came off as the quintessential Miss middle America. Speaking in a colloquial tongue she seems to thumb her nose at the so called east/west coast elites. Even if McCain/Palin don't win the election I think she has a bright future in her party and national politics.

Sarah Palin did really well in the debate after a disastrous interview with Katie Couric earlier in the week. I could have done with less folksy colloquialisms but she certainly held her own debating Joe Biden ("May I call you Joe?"). Most of the polls showed that Biden "won" the debate but Palin could certainly hold her head up high. They did a funny skit about this debate tonight on Saturday Night Live. I agree that Palin will be a star in the Republican party. I'm sure they'll nominate her in the next go round.

So the Man Booker Prize 2008 was announced this evening and the winner is........ The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga (a chap from India) I haven't read the book. But in August I had read a review by a popular books blogger and he was not impressed with it. Infact he dismissed it and said it was a complete waste of time. He wondered not how it made the Booker longlist but that it was even ever published. It's all subjective which book you like and which you don't really.

Sad to hear of the untimely death of Natasha Richardson. I was lucky enough to see her in High Society many years ago, when she starred alongside a tap dancing Trevor Eve at The Theatre Royal in Nottingham . She was also a Paulina, apparently. Given her age, she would have been there at the same time as Mandana.

Given her age, she would have been there at the same time as Mandana. What got me the most was the "news" by a couple of the entertainment magazines this week- they were so intent on being the first ones to publish about her accident that they couldn't even wait to see how she was or what the diagnosis might be. Of course, it ended up being the worst outcome possible, and it made the covers ("Natasha Richardson's tragic accident and her unknown future") seem heartless. Bastards.

Just wanted to say Barbra, you're a true legend. Fabulous to see you singing on British TV last night. Brilliant that you are going back to your roots and singing in front of studio audiences and intimate venues with small bands. Hard to believe she's 67 years of age. I will put a link up from last night when there's one to put up! In the mean time, Oprah this week www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5Oeuxq0cf0And, yes, it was played at my wedding too (and I'm still married)! You've certainly made me happy over the past 30 years. www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QTVXPyc8mE

I have only known Barbra Streisand as an actor from her movies like What's up Doc and The main event. It's only after seeing her in Hello Dolly did I realize she's also a singer and a good one at that. ;D But that was decades back. Since then haven't really followed her career as such. YouTube is down so can't see the video links.

Hard to believe she's 67 years of age. Oh, Top, you're mistaken. She's not 67. Why, she's the same age as my mother and there's no way my mother is that old.

Oh, Top, you're mistaken. She's not 67. Why, she's the same age as my mother and there's no way my mother is that old. She's even old enough to be my mother too In actual fact, she was also interviewed by Paul Gambaccini on BBC radio 2 last night. That was an even better interview. Lots of new, interesting stuff like she only did Hello Dolly because the film studio threatened to sue her if she pulled out (she felt she was far too young for the role). She now wishes she'd let them sue her because the only thing she enjoyed in the film was singing with Louis Armstrong! She also talks about Dusty Springfield and how she has deliberately avoided copying her arrangement of 'if you go away' because Dusty's version was so good. She feels that her brother pronounces their name incorrectly because he says his name is Shelly Streizzzzand and she thinks it's soft 'like sand on the beach'. As for 'Sunset Boulevard' she says she turned down the film role of the musical twice. When she was 16 she auditioned for the role of Leisl in The Sound of Music

I'm confused by this quote: So, she's not all that interested in doing full-time work, but she'll uproot her daughter away from family and move to, of all places... Los Angeles? If there's a semblance of ambition, why not New York? It's closer in cultural diversity to London and isn't a cesspool of botoxed 20-something lollipops. (My apologies to any poster here who lives in Los Angeles! ;D) She's a 45-year old Scot thinking she's going to get work in L.A? I wish her the best.
