While we're not sure if Mandana is a footie fan, if she is, based on where she was brought up, she could very well be either a Fulham fan or a Chelsea fan. If that's so, I only have one request- Please, footie gods, don't let it be Chelsea. Okay, two requests- Please, footie gods, don't let her be a Manchester United fan! This message brought to you by someone who likened the UEFA Champions League final to having to choose between death by hanging or decapitation! If there was a glimmer of a silver lining at all... "Whoops!" (And I've resurrected this thread to draw RomanMachine out from hiding. )

"Whoops!" (And I've resurrected this thread to draw RomanMachine out from hiding. ) I love that picture. So, who's excited about the Euros? It's too bad that England won't be there, but, even so, I can hardly wait until June 7th! I'll be supporting Spain and not just because there's a few Reds in the squad. I'd like to see them shake off their demons and actually perform according to their talent. Romania are my dark horse team. Can't really explain why, but I have a feeling they'll make it out of their group.

I'm actually a bit more excited about the Euros because England's not in it. I'll be able to enjoy the tournament without the stress and agony of England blowing it again. I haven't picked them to come out of the group- if only they were in any other group than the wonderfully named "Group of Death". (Pretend you're Darth Vadar when you say it. It's cooler that way. ) But I think they have one big upset in them, and I think it will be Italy. They might even tie with France. As I said to my supervisor (who is Romanian), if there is one team that will surprise people, Romania is the only one I see having a chance. They're much better than people think. My predictions: Group A: Portugal, Czech Republic Group B: Germany, Croatia Group C: France, Italy (though I'll be happy to be wrong on that one!) Group D: Spain, Russia Quarters: Portugal/Croatia- Portugal Germany/Czech- Germany France/Russia- France Spain/Italy- Spain Semis: Portugal/Germany- Germany France/Spain- Spain Final Germany/Spain- *sigh* My heart is with Spain, but my brain says Germany. Let's just say I won't bet on this game. But forced to choose, I've got to think Spain will finally live up to its talent.

Well, my second team (after England, of course) has always been Italy. Don't ask me why - other than they are usually cute and have lovely names I also have a soft spot for Spain because they are under achievers just like us!! Can't bear Germany. So, I don't really care beyond it not being them.

So, I don't really care beyond it not being them. Top, I'm going to pretend I didn't read that. Nah, I don't hate Italy. In fact, I like some of the players - Gattuso, Del Piero. I might even be a fan of Luca Toni. I like that he came on late in his career. He wasn't another young starlet and that surprised everyone. The only reason I wouldn't want Italy is because it's so expected. Italy, France, Germany. Yawn. That's what made Euro 2004 so interesting. I mean, who in their right mind thought Greece would win it? Now, having said all that...Viva Espana! ;D

Top, I'm going to pretend I didn't read that......Now, having said all that...Viva Espana! ;D I think that post should have been in RED to show your displeasure and then I really would have felt told off Seriously, don't know why I have a soft spot for Italy. Maybe it's because the first family holiday I can really remember a lot about was to Sorrento when I was 5. We went to Rome, Capri and up Vesuvius and to Pompei etc. Having said all that, as a typical Brit, I love an underdog and so will be happy if someone unexpected wins. I didn't see either of the opening matches yesterday but the results were pretty predictable. I suspect the co host nation Switzerland won't last beyond the group stages.

Well, the football is certainly unpredictable!
Turkey beat Croatia and Russia beat Holland against the odds.
I do want Spain to win tonight but have this feeling Italy will frustrate them for 90 mins and steal a goal. Unfortunately, all I can see is the door being kicked wider open for Germany to sneak it. I just want anybody but Germany to win.

Well I'm gutted. I wanted the Netherlands to win but the flaming Ruskies saw them off last night. Have to admit though, the Russians were by far the better team. I've never been a fan of the I-ties, all that dull, defensive play gets my goat. I think Germany will be one finalist I honestly can't see Turkey's luck holding out much longer. I'm so hoping Spain win tonight and after that...

Pleased to see Spain win last night..a penalty from Fabregas We were glad to see Germany beat Portugal the other night but only to see the last of Ronaldo..cant stand him. Surprised that Russia beat Holland but they were the better team on the night.

I've never been a fan of the I-ties, all that dull, defensive play gets my goat.... Well, never was it as dull and boring as last night It was tedious. Poor old Spain were trying everything to play attacking football but Italy just put 10 men behind the ball. I am just relieved that Spain broke their June 22nd penalty shoot out duck. btw, es, are you going to start a Wimbledon thread?

What was even more insulting was, it's not as if Italy can't show flashes of brilliance, but they obviously entered that game looking to not lose/take to penalties, rather than going in with the mindset of winning. I can't imagine any genuine Italian fan was pleased with that style, regardless of the fact that they also lost. Poor play and just another reason I was glad to see them go. And you're right about C.Ronaldo, gingercat- can't stand him either.

And you're right about C.Ronaldo, gingercat- can't stand him either. Count me in too. I will never forget that match during the world cup when he tried to get Wayne Rooney sent off. Rooney barely touched him but he writhed around on the floor as if his leg was broken. When Rooney got booked, he was caught by the TV cameras winking at his team mates. There is no denying he is a gifted player but I hate the way he feels it necessary to cheat. Come on Spain. Cannot bear the thought of Germany playing mediocre football yet again and winning a major trophy.
