My goodness, England WON today!! Woo-hooo!!!!! 3-0!! (Let's pretend we don't know it was against lowly Andorra.) Actually, as much as I support the boys, I was almost hoping they'd lose, because I had hoped it would be the final straw and McClaren would finally get booted off the team as manager. Good news is, Frank Lampard is out with a broken wrist, so maybe Steve Gerrard will get the center position he should have had all along!! I know RomanMachine's happy about the score, what with being a Scouser supporter and all.

McClaren out!! Seriously, though, who in their right mind thought he was the man for the job? I haven't seen the match yet. It was only available on pay-per-view yesterday and there's no way I'm paying $25 to see that shower of shite. From the commentary I read, though, it sounds like Stevie G was the only one who deserved to be out there. I'm like you, though, coolbyrne. I wanted them to lose since it would mean the final straw for McClaren. But, if they had to win, I'm glad it was due to the boot of Captain Fantastic. Speaking of the qualifiers yesterday, did anyone see Norway v. Turkey? Both of Turkey's goals came from mistakes by Norway's keeper, Myhre - the first slipped through his fingers and the second went right between his legs when he tried to smother it. I felt bad for him. He was crying when they left the pitch, the poor bastard.

It really was awful. I fell asleep. At least we didn't have to endure Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard trying to play together Steven has always got my vote and he proved how good he is.

Excuse me, Coolbyrne and romanmachine, but how did you two get to be such soccer fanatics? It actually sounds as if you know who these people are.

So true, topcat, but I have a sinking feeling that we'll see that "tactic" used again, eventually. justafan, we do know who they are. I'll let coolbyrne tell you about her experiences (and probably state unequivocally that she's a hockey fan first), but I've been a fan for about 6 years. Before that, I was always interested, but I had no way follow it at all. I love the game, in general, but Liverpool over everything, which is why I couldn't help but be happy for Stevie about the latest England result. I think he should have been captain instead of Terry. Admittedly, my opinion could be biased.

Just watching our team Arsenal being well beaten by Liverpool this lunchtime...we certainly need some new players.

I got into football during the '98 World Cup, because my boss was a big fan. As with most sports, I follow players more than teams, and as I watched the '98 Cup, a lot of talk was about Alan Shearer, and how this would be his last Cup. Once the Cup was over, my interest was piqued and I started following the Premiership, and specifically, Newcastle United, because that's who Alan played for. Eventually, I even got to see him play -albeit only for the last five minutes of the match- when I was in England and saw Newcastle play in Everton. What a wild bunch those Toon fans are!! And oddly enough, I followed Roy Keane until he retired (even kind of follow him now, as he's manager of Sunderland). I say "oddly enough" because he played for the much-hated Manchester United. (Chelsea has replaced Man U as THE hated team. *grin*) But I read about his clashes with Mick McCarthy over the training facilities in Saipan, where the Irish team was sent to prepare for the 2002 World Cup. (One example- they were asked to train on a pitch that was built on top of a parking lot!) In the end, Keane went/was sent home, causing a HUGE uproar not only in Ireland, but in the football world. I read the arguments for and against Roy, and came up believing he was in the right to not only not play, but to voice his disapproval. He WAS the team captain, after all. Isn't that his job? To look after the team? He got my support and I followed his career thereafter. Even though he played for Man U. Despite both those players retiring, I still follow Newcastle (though not to the degree I did when Shearer played), and still follow football in general.

Uh, well, that's a lot of information. (You should know that I'm not into sports of any kind.) "And oddly enough, I followed Roy Keane until he retired (even kind of follow him now, as he's manager of Sunderland)." Don't know Roy Keane but, hey, I have a Sunderland connection. My American grandmother visited her Scottish aunt and English uncle (who was a shipowner) there a few times at the end of the 19th century. She was there at the death of Queen Victoria in fact.

Liverpool were awesome last night against PSV. Three stunning goals without reply ( and I support a team in the Championship ) What a driving force StevieG is, why he isn't the England captain Gawd only knows! It's not looking good for MU or Chelsea, the former losing 2-1 to Roma, with Scholes sent off, strange for such a mild-mannered man off the pitch. And Chelsea held to a 1-1 draw at home by Valencia. Normally, I'd be rooting for them to be beaten, but when they're playing 'Johnny Foreigner' it's different. ;D I'm not xenophobic - honest. At least Roon found his shooting boots tonight, but then he usually does for United

Usually RomanMachine would post this I'm sure, but you'll have to excuse her- she's too high on the excitement to come down and make a post. Liverpool beats Chelsea in nail-biting penalties, 4-1, to give the much reviled Blues the boot in the Champions League semi-final. How'd you like them RED apples, Special One?* And yes, I know, that Garcia goal** shouldn't have counted. (*Special One= Chelsea's egomaniac manager, Jose Mourinho, who is still- STILL- whinging about **Garcia's questionable goal from LAST year that won it for Liverpool and knocked Chelsea out. Move on, Jose, for everyone's sake!)

What a match...where does Mourinho get off with saying that Chelsea were the better team on the night..what a load of rubbish..Liverpool were way above them.
Well done Liverpool.
I suppose I have to support Manure tonight..but I hate it.

I too go for Liverpool in the EPL. I watched the LIV v's CHEL game here in Aus. This morning I taped MAN U v's AC MIL, and will watch it later. BTW does anyone know the date of the Final so I can mark it in my diary?

You're mistaken- according to the Special One, Liverpool isn't a big club, so Chelsea MUST have been the better team! What a jackass. And look! It's Liverpool and... AC Milan in the finals! (May 23rd, wadewannabe.)

For your information, coolbyrne, I was making a post when my internet crapped out yet again. But, I'm still high on excitement. So, it's deja vu all over again for the Final. AC Milan were brilliant yesterday and Kaka had Vidic in his back pocket. Speaking of Kaka, he's the only thing I like about Milan. That match was just one more reason for me to hate Man United - I had to cheer for f**kin AC Milan! Jose really showed his class with those post-match comments. I loved what Stevie said after the game: Gerrard also admitted the pre-match comments from Jose Mourinho helped spur the Reds on. "That's Jose for you - he's been a credit to English football, he makes us laugh now and then," he added. "I think he was a bit disrespectful calling us a little club. Two finals in three years - not bad for a little club."So, we're a small club. I'd love to ask Jose to name one thing that Chelsea had done before Abramovich and his bottomless pockets. It's the UEFA Cup semis today and I've become something of a Werder Bremen fan lately, even though Klose lost me a very important bet once. They have a hell of a deficit to overcome, though, since Espanyol won the 1st leg 3-0. Coolbyrne, did you see that rumor that Allardyce will become Newcastle manager on May 14th? Granted, that news comes from The S*n so it could be a load of crap. Wadewannabe, nice to see another Liverpool supporter here.
