Does it bother anyone that both MJNet site and MJNet messageboard has PayPal splashed on it but SLNet site and SLNet messageboard doesn't. Does anybody know why that is? Or have I missed something? So nobody knows why MJ fans are bombarded by this hideous PayPal sticker on every page? I wonder if Mandana is aware of how the admins at Splodgy are profiting at her expense. I'll bet SL site doesn't have PayPal because they were ordered to take it down.

Probably the same thing that happened with FX. I just think it's time has passed. It's 10 years since the original aired. If it was going to be done, it should have been done then. I will never understand the need to re do it anyway. Why distribute the original to small outlets but spend millions on trying to replicate chemistry and stories?

I agree with you Topcat about re-doing Bad Girls. In general I think it's a bad idea. I was horrified to learn that a new movie of Brideshead Revisited had been made when the definitive version, so beautifully crafted, had been produced by the BBC not that long ago. Why do they keep remaking every Jane Austen novel or book by the Bronte sisters? Enough already! I will say that I am curious to see what Alan Ball would do with the concept of Bad Girls. Maybe he would (or will) produce something very different. I can't see him taking on a project just to slavishly copy what has been done already. I'm thinking of the remake of The Office which I actually think is a much better program than the original. I was checking out the Amazon.uk site the other day and there was an ad for the American version so I clicked on it and was surprised that the British posters agreed with that assessment. I wouldn't check HBO's line-up for at least another year...I think it will take that long if not longer. I guess I would like to see what they come up with since I respect them more than I do Shed Productions.

But I think the reasoning for a brand new Americanized version is so that if the series becomes a hit or a semi-hit then they have the rights for syndication. That's where the money is. Am speculating here.

Why do they keep remaking every Jane Austen novel or book by the Bronte sisters? Enough already! And they keep modernizing it and also 'sexing it up' for some reason. Think of those low-cut boob overspilling dresses ;D Every 5 years they have a newer adaptation with a Yankee actress if it's a movie. The latest is the awful 'The Tudors' about King Henry the VIII. Viewers seeing for the 1st time will really believe he was a young handsome King. And he goes around shagging virginal girls every 10 minutes.

I don't know if they'll get the syndication for the original series, if that's what you mean. They'll definitely get the rights for the new series, though! And yeah, that's where the money is, if they can shill it out to enough stations.
He was quite handsome as a young man, before he became the big rotund image we're all familiar with. But as for the rest of it- *covers face* One reviewer was spot on when he said Jeremy Northam and Sam Neill give the production more class and talent than it deserves. It really is quite a train wreck. And don't even bother trying to find any kind of historical accuracy- if I'm not mistaken, they amalgamate a sister and a queen together to make one character!

Oh God Jilly that is too funny! Just when you think there is no other way to resurrect Jane! Don't know if we'll ever get the chance to see "Lost in Austen" (love the title) this side of the Atlantic. I actually liked "Bride and Prejudice" though and recently I checked out "The Jane Austen Book Club". I stopped watching that pretty early. We're getting an American version of "Life on Mars" that looks promising and advertizes itself as based on the 'international hit'. They're touting that during NBC's coverage of the Olympics for maximum reach. Liked the comment about the 'Paulinas' because of the tie in to MJ (former Paulina).

Oh yeah Lost in Austen will definitely be shown in N.America. They keep making Pride and Prejudice in different avatars bec it is very profitable and also very popular around the English speaking countries. Darcy/Lizzy love story blah blah. ;D Never heard of The Austen Book Club. Walked out of the theatre 20 minutes during Bride and Prejudice. Found it hokey and schmaltzy. Tho I enjoyed Bollywood Hollywood. Fun light drama. Have you seen it? PS: I think this page should be in the TV/Movie thread. Maybe CB would like to move it?

I thought 'Bride and Prejudice' was delightful because it was supposed to be over the top. I really have liked all of Gurinder Chadha's movies. The DVD extras on that film were a lot of fun. I haven't seen Bollywood Hollywood but I'll look for it. Here's a link for the movie version of The Jane Austen Book Club. www.amazon.com/Jane-Austen-Book-Club/dp/B000ZS8GW6/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1219537691&sr=8-1Years ago I was really into Elizabeth Barrett Browning and her romance with Robert. She wrote a LOT of letters and imagine my delight one day to happen on a letter to one of her friends where she trash talked Jane Austen. She was NO fan....but her friend was. ;D I love that title "Lost in Austen" especially when you say it fast!
